Our Volunteers
The food bank operation on Tuesdays, and all the background administration during the week, is done entirely by volunteers. As you can see below, they fill a range of different roles, often just giving an hour or two of their time every week. But we always need more help. If you’d like to join the team, read about the volunteer roles in detail or email mutualaidfoodwillesden@gmail.com

Alison
I've been doing delivering since the start of the pandemic in 2020. I'd only just passed my driving test then, so it's been good to put my driving licence to good use.

Ash
I volunteer to engage with people going through difficult times. It helps to see the reality of our neighbourhoods, rather than the bubble some of us are accustomed to.

Caty
Times are tricky and tough. A helping hand with choosing food, a listening ear and an encouraging smile are a pleasure to give.

Chris
I was a client initially, but became a volunteer after a few weeks, and have now been helping out for about two years. I help get deliveries ready and keep the crates well organised.

Dan
It’s nice to feel one is doing something useful, however small.

Eleanor
I help organise routes for the drivers delivering parcels to housebound guests. I have a full-time job, so usually do this on Sundays wherever I am. All I need is a laptop and internet access. I've been made very welcome by the rest of the volunteer team.

I love the camaraderie and the smile on someone’s face when you give them a bunch of flowers.

Katie
I’ve been helping on a Tuesday off and on for the last 2 years depending on if I have work on that day. I also help behind the scenes with social media and organisation of the food bank.

Liz
I have been volunteering on Tuesday mornings for almost a year now. I started because I wanted to do something useful in my local community. Now I turn up on Tuesdays because I enjoy seeing the people there.

Marion
I like the camaraderie that exists among the team of volunteers, and it's good to know that we're helping some of our neighbours in Brent as well.

Rachel
I joined the food bank community a few months ago and was warmly welcomed everyone. I live close by so am able to continue working in the afternoon. It is both humbling and rewarding and I don’t understand why it took me so long to get involved.

Stephen
I love volunteering for MAFW to help and support the local community. It is fun, exciting, interesting, fascinating, special, thrilling and unique. I enjoy assisting and engaging with all our lovely guests on a weekly basis. Being part of such a diverse team of volunteers is fabulous. I have volunteering for almost two years within this superb project.

Steve
I was a driver during the first lockdown in 2020, but then had to go back to work. Now I’m retired, I help out at the food bank on Tuesdays and sometimes do deliveries.

Syed
Now that I'm retired, I have time available to help out at the food bank on Tuesdays, which is close to where I live.

Valda
I enjoy volunteering not only because it helps me give back to the local community but also because I’ve found a wonderful new group of local friends.

I love to help people when they are having a tough time and the atmosphere at the food bank is fantastic.
